Taking advantage of the beautiful natural surroundings in Northern Virginia, there are a number of wonderful parks in Fauquier County. These parks all feature numerous amenities, including ball fields, playgrounds, walking trails, fishing lakes, and even amphitheaters for live shows.
Fauquier County, like much of Northern Virginia, is a place rich with American history. Even small communities in the county have their place in history, like Warrenton, which was once the site of several raids at the hands of Colonel John "Grey Ghost" Mosby. Col Mosby later made Warrenton his home and practiced law there. His residence is still a popular tourist destination. The Warren Green Hotel hosted many famous people including Marquis de Lafayette, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay and Theodore Roosevelt. General George McClellan bade farewell to his troops from the steps of the hotel after being relieved of his duties as Commander of the Army of the Potomac by President Abraham Lincoln.
Residents of Warrenton are served by Fauquier County Public Schools. This includes Fauquier High School, the oldest high school in Fauquier County and home to great academics and extracurricular programs. There are three private schools in the Town of Warrenton: Highland School, St John The Evangelist Catholic School and St James' Episcopal School.
